Cancer rehabilitation services at The Physio Space and Integrative Wellness Center are provided by Registered Physiotherapists with special expertise. Our cancer rehabilitation services are therefore covered as ‘physiotherapy’ under extended health insurance plans.

What to expect at your first appointment?

Your initial assessment involves a thorough subjective assessment, delving into your past, present and/or future surgical and medical oncology management. Your physiotherapist will administer special physical tests and measurements, in order to establish a diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan.

Part of the physiotherapy management consists of extensive education regarding current physical and emotional needs. We take into consideration your current physical capabilities and help you determine short term and long-term goals that best fit your lifestyle.

Despite its being a more sensitive location, please come prepared wearing a tank top and/or comfortable, free-moving clothes. Your physiotherapist may also ask for you to undress to better assess the chest muscles and potential scar tissue. Your physiotherapist will take care to ensure your comfort at every step of the assessment and treatment, using draping as appropriate within a private treatment space.

Treatment at The Physio Space and Integrative Wellness Center can involve a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and other treatment modalities such as acupuncture, therapeutic modalities, cupping, taping, etc.

While your physiotherapist may use various tools to help you move better and get better, exercise is often your main modality to help you recover fully and prevent future orthopedic problems.
